2022 SC Job Tax Credit County Tier Rankings

The South Carolina Department of Revenue recently released the 2022 Job Tax Credit County Tier Rankings. South Carolina’s 46 counties are ranked and designated annually for job tax credit purposes with equal weight given to unemployment rate and per capita income. South Carolina’s Jobs Tax Credits are valuable incentives that reward businesses for the creation and maintenance of jobs in South Carolina. For each new full-time job created in South Carolina, the tax credit ranges in value from $1,500 - $25,000 per year for up to five years, depending on which county the job is located.

A county’s ranking directly affects the amount of Job Tax Credits (JTC) a business can receive for new jobs created by the business in their respective county. The JTC amounts before any additional enhancements are as follows:

  • Tier I: $1,500.00 per year, per job.
  • Tier II: $2,750.00 per year, per job.
  • Tier III: $20,250.00 per year, per job.
  • Tier IV: $25,000.00 per year, per job.

The final ranking of counties for (1) new full-time jobs created in tax years that begin in 2022, where the job tax credit was first earned on or after January 1, 2022, and (2) increases in new full-time jobs in 2022 are listed below as well as in this downloadable resource.

Tier 3
Abbeville, Chesterfield, Clarendon, Colleton, Darlington, Fairfield, Greenwood, Horry, Jasper, Laurens, McCormick, Sumter

Tier 4
Allendale, Bamberg, Barnwell, Cherokee, Chester, Dillon, Lee, Marion, Marlboro, Orangeburg, Union, Williamsburg
